A series of successful e-learning courses based around Safeguarding and First Aid for England Football Learning (EFL). These courses were built using an authoring tool which required establishing and adapting a style guide, UI and UX.
With constantly evolving brand guidelines from project to project and accessibility to always keep in mind, it was important to maintain open and strong communication between myself and the EFL learning designers and brand liaisons. The challenge from course to course was how to stay creative and unique within the guidelines to distinguish courses from each other, but maintain the core identity of the learning brand.

Safeguarding awareness for parents & carers is about creating safe environments and preventing children from experiencing harm or abuse. The course has been taken by over 60,000 learners with one parent saying “This course should be undertaken by absolutely everybody involved with children and young person’s in football”.
As this was my first project with England Football Learning (EFL), we decided to go for something more bespoke than what they had been doing previously. Theming for ‘parents’ had to utilise the ‘play safe’ graphic device and I implemented GIFs of the hairline graphic in backgrounds to appear on scroll. At this stage there was no ‘new blue’ or ‘dynamic shape’ as part of the EFL branding.
This bespoke nature of this course meant it took longer to build than we would have liked and for future courses we decided to build a theme within the authoring tool that could be applied to courses with small changes to differentiate courses.
At a later date, with the new custom theme built in adapt, It was my job to re-theme how the same course would look with the refreshed branding at the time. This included utilising the dynamic shape and the ‘new blue’.

This course supports committee members to identify their individual and collective responsibility in safeguarding, to put the wellbeing of children and young people (under 18s) central to all they do.
‘Committee members’ was the first course to introduce the new blue and dynamic shape so involved lots of experiments as to how to establish a balance with the rest of the colours and graphic shapes.

SCA is designed to help anyone recognise a Sudden Cardiac Arrest and respond appropriately.
This course was a good opportunity to refine the style that had been worked on in previous two courses. Looking at how the dynamic shape can be better utilised in emphasising key messages. I also implemented some ‘lion’ dividers and a ‘graph graphic’ to be utilised in backgrounds which was relevant to the course being medical.

This course explores how to safeguard adults as defining an ‘adult at risk’. It also introduces the role of club welfare officer (adult disability teams) – a role similar to the club welfare officer in youth football.
After the success of ‘SCA’, there were minimal amendments to the theme for ‘safeguarding adults’, with the exception being the banner. There was a consensus for something fresh. Using a two column image layout allowed a range of different people to feature which fit the course because of the ethnicities, disabilities and backgrounds talked about.
